Well, it's a new day in a new year. What does that buy you? "Another day older, and deeper in debt" according to Jimmy Dean, or Tennessee Ernie Ford.
The economy is going down the drain, we have all seen that, and doesn't appear to be in a resurgence during the coming year. I guess this is one of those times we just have to 'Grin and bear it', and hope we don't go broke in the process.
Have you noticed the price of everything is going up? It costs us more to go to the grocery, the Dentist, a night out at a restaurant. I find that lately, I have too much month left at the end of the money
With Christmas having just passed, and the inevitable City and County Property taxes I had to pay and the House insurance payment, .......................... my bank account has been wrecked! I hope I can start seeing some improvement now that all of the financial "Insults" have preyed upon our household.
What I need now is a "Bailout" program of my own. (like that's goin' to happen)
Oops!, ...... I tripped getting down off of my soapbox.
I'll do the rest of my moaning and groaning in private.

MADE IN THE U.S.A.
This may seem funny but I was so surprised I had to share it with you. When I think of the job situation in this country I can't help but think this helps in some small way.
I don't know how many households there are in the U.S.A. but if these were the only things we bought think of the impact...

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I went for 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off brand labeled "Everyday Value" I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA.
Throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here - from a company in Cleveland OH!
So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets....yep you guessed it, Bounce was more money and made in Canada, the Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! In the laundry yesterday the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce we have been using for years and at almost half the price!
Now, my challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

Christmas came, and Christmas went, .... I ate too much!
New Years came, and New Years went, ....I ate too much!
Now that all of these holidays are finished, for a while, maybe I can get back to a more sensible diet (with less candy).
Our "messy" season is starting. The last of January through the first week of March is normally not the most pleasant of weather here in the South Western part of Kentucky. Our largest snow fall is normally in February or, sometimes, the first week of March. We don't get a lot of snow as a rule, but do get 18" to 20" on a rare occasion.
Then there's the occasional Ice Storm, where everything gets covered with a thick layer of clear ice.
This breaks down trees and power lines and can cause many days of 'no power'.

That's why I have a large generator. If needed, I can provide my own power to keep the house alive........ including the gas furnace and the important things, like TV and computer. We have had the need of if a few times.
Spring storms are another story all together. Don't get me started.
With the year around humidity, Fall rains, Winter cold and mess, Spring storms and hot unbearable Summers, ..................... Kentucky is just not a good place to call home. I question my sanity quite often, and ask myself why, after all these years of this mess, am I still here?
Maybe it's just stupidity. Maybe it's because I have a wife that refuses to move anywhere else. Hmmmm! Things to think about.
Remember, all of you old Boy Scouts, "Be prepared"
Well, better go fill my my gasoline reserve cans this week, ... just in case.
